Unchangeable

“You are one within yourself and one with Him. Yours is the unity of all creation. Your perfect unity makes change in you impossible.”   –ACIM (Lesson 95)

As I sit and wonder what my subject will be, I realize that actually there are no new messages to write about, for there is nothing new under the sun. It’s always the same message even though it might be expressed in different ways. You already know what the message is, you just need to be reminded that you know.

Everyone is not only entitled to their own beliefs and opinions but everyone has them. That being said, no matter what our beliefs and opinions are, what is true will always be true and what is false will always be false and so shall it always be. For my part, I believe The Course to be true and therefore I accept the truth that we’re Spiritual Beings.

As I write, I’m always conscious of the following information about The Course from Jesus: “This course will be believed entirely or not at all. For it is wholly true or wholly false and cannot be but partially believed.”

Even though we’re Spiritual Beings the majority of us identify ourselves as physical. We look at the body and believe it to be what we are. This is due to the fact that this false idea has been taught to us since we were old enough to learn. We were taught by well-meaning adults that we must always protect ourselves from that which, we inevitably learn, is our destiny; death. And so we live our lives in fear of the inevitable, wondering why a loving God would place us in such a position.

“You have dreamed of a separated ego, and you have believed in a world which rests upon it.”   –ACIM

We believe we’re here in this physical dimension because we’re in a dream state and dreaming that we’re characters in someone else’s dream. In other words, we’re dreaming of separation and realize not that we’re the dreamer. We see characters in our dreams that are separate from us, form God and from each other.

Because it’s all a dream, everything in this physical world is an illusion. Therefore, everything here seems to be separate and have an opposite. Such as young and old, rich and poor, hot and cold, hard and soft, up and down, in and out, front and back,  etc., etc..

Even life itself has an opposite in this insane world. We’ve been taught to believe it’s our destiny and call it death. Health too has an opposite, which we usually refer to as sickness or illness or in some cases bad health. We see health as either good or bad. But the most detrimental of all for those who see the flesh and fail to recognize the Spirit is the erroneous belief that life must give way to an opposite, which is death.

“Like all His thoughts, it has no opposite. There is no death because what God created shares His Life.”   –ACIM

The above quote is referring to life and states that it has no opposite. That which God created is eternal, therefore, as my opening quote informs us, change in us is impossible. So either you’re still as Love created you; an eternal Creation of God sharing His Life. Or you believe you’ve performed the impossible and changed yourself into something else; a being subject to the ravages of time and death. There can be no compromise in this.

“Although you are One Self, you experience yourself as two—as both good and evil, loving and hating, mind and body.”   –ACIM  (Lesson 96)

In what way do we experience ourselves as two? Well as the above quote points out: We can, and do, at times, see ourselves as good and at other times see ourselves as bad. (Even though the word, evil, is used above I really have a difficult time using it so I went with bad. You can decide for yourself).

Most people believe it’s possible to love some people and dislike, or even hate, others at the same time. Many see themselves as bodies and try to convince themselves that their minds are contained within their brains. But this is usually quite difficult to do because they’re usually faced with the gnawing feeling that the mind is actually more than physical. So we experience ourselves as opposing beliefs, or as Jesus says, two selves

“First, the assumption is implicit that what God created can be changed by the mind of man.”   –ACIM

In The Course, Jesus, talking about why fear happens, says: “The mind is a very powerful creator, and it never loses its creative force. It never sleeps. Every instant it is creating and always as you will.”

When you consciously and deliberately think from God’s Thought System of Love you become aware of your union with your Source. In other words, you’re in your natural state as a Co-Creator with God, exactly as He created you to be. In this state, whether you believe it, or not, you’re equal in power to God Himself. But, as mentioned, you have to consciously and deliberately think and not just be carried along by mental activity.

When you allow yourself to think rationally and lovingly you’ll realize, as the light of reason flashes, that what God created eternal cannot ever be changed. He created you as one Self, forever changeless and as part of Him. As The Course tells us: “You were created by Love like Itself.”

“Love’s meaning is obscure to anyone who thinks that love can change.”   –ACIM (Lesson 127)

If you believe the statement, God is Love, would it not produce a very uneasy feeling to believe that love can change? I find it very unsettling even to think of the possibility that God could change? If it were possible for God to change there would be no certainty to be found anywhere in the whole Universe. There would be no such thing as what is true is true or what is false is false. The truth could change to false and the false could be true the very next day. It would be exactly like this insane world we’re dreaming we’re now living in.

In fact, that’s the whole basis upon which this insane world is made. It’s built upon the mistaken belief that what God created can be changed. Perfection is no more than mediocrity, Love is changed to fear, Life gives way to death, Happiness becomes sadness, eternity is swallowed up by time and God’s holy Son believes he has been born as a body of flesh.

“Love is one… It is like itself, unchanged throughout. It never alters with a person or a circumstance. It is the Heart of God, and also of His Son.”    –ACIM

In the quote I used as my opening Jesus says: Yours is the unity of all creation. He also says in the same quote: You are one within yourself and one with Him. This describes you as God created you. He created you as part of Him. You are a Creation of Love, created by Love like Itself. As the above quote tells you: Love is the Heart of God, and also of His Son. Love is the very Essence of your Being.

If someone were to unexpectedly ask you to point to yourself there’s a 99.9 percent chance that you would, without thinking about it, point to your heart instead of your head. This isn’t because the physical heart is the Heart we’re talking about here. It’s because you intuitively know, before your intellect kicks in, that you’re pointing to your Spiritual Self. It’s the Home of Love, the very Heart of God and also of His Son. And you are His Son  – or Daughter or Child or Creation – whichever you prefer.

“Your perfect unity makes change in you impossible.”   –ACIM

When God created you He made you part of Him. You cannot be more unified with your Creator than that. Your changelessness is guaranteed by this truth. But the thing is, you listen to the ego, which tells you that you’re something other than what you are and you believe it. Therefore, you believe that you have changed what God created. As Jesus puts it in The Course: “You see yourself as a ridiculous parody on God’s creation…”

I’m going to close this post with a quote from verse 2 of Lesson 97 of The Course. It highlights the difference between the above quote and what you really are: “You are the Spirit lovingly endowed with all your Father’s love and peace and joy. You are the Spirit which completes Himself and shares His function as Creator. He is with you always, as you are with Him.”

Thank you for visiting this site. I appreciate it and am grateful to you. May God shed the Light of remembrance upon you so that you may always recognize the Spirit as your Self
